Hi, I’m Sara,

I’m an author, creative business owner, mother of four, retired military wife and (slightly obsessed with yarn) crochet hobbyist I’m also a creativity coach, a certified NLP Master Practitioner and a marketing expert. Over the years I’ve experienced failure and success on many levels, in many ways, and love helping others along their creative journey, whether that’s unblocking, finding deeper expression or simply finding time to be creative.

I’ve constantly studied and taken workshops in creativity and creative expression, writing and craft all my life, and I truly believe that everyone is creative and every person has the power to express themselves creatively, it just depends on how much that creativity has been suppressed through the social constructs of ‘life’ we live in day-to-day.

My creativity journey…

I’ve always been creative and had a strong sense of creativity…

In the beginning, I had huge confidence issues as a child, but despite this, I always had a great sense of creative energy and a creative pull like an invisible chord anchoring me to where and what I’m supposed to do.

I always had an affinity for writing, and this was always my favourite way to express myself creatively. The very first book I ever wrote was a children’s story for my sister when I was seven. I painstakingly drew (very badly) little hedgehogs and animals and loved creating the story for her to read. I stuck the book together with Sellotape and presented my work to a delighted little girl.

And, even though I love other creative activities ranging from crochet to decoupage and design, writing has always been where my genuine passion lies, but I spent a lot of years suppressing this call to creativity because. “real people don’t do jobs like that” was ringing in my ears from so many authority figures over the years.

However, even through my years of working corporate job roles, I still gravitated towards creative pursuits and spent 14 years in marketing, specialising in content, copywriting, social media and creative ways to use marketing in business.

Despite this, it never stopped me wanting to write a book one day. But, then I had a bit of a lightbulb moment when I realised that this elusive ‘one day’ would never come unless I changed one day into today.

Publishing my first book…

So, after years of writing in secret…

I published my first novel in 2016, followed a few years later by the second book.

However, since then, I’ve suffered from great periods of creative blocks; times when I’ve struggled to work out my focus and direction, and times when I just had no room left for anything except existing.

And, it’s all these difficulties I’ve struggled with that’s led me to want to help other creatives on their journey to live a creative and fulfilling life.

Because, I’ve been that person who suppressed creativity and who I truly am, and I’ve been the person living a life I didn’t recognise or love, just to fit in with what society deemed as ‘successful’.

And the truth is you can only do that for so long until you have to really examine yourself and where you want to go in an honest and sometimes difficult way, to take yourself in the direction you’re supposed to be going in.

My new creativity mission..

Now I’m on a mission to help as many people as possible…

To not only find their creativity but to express themselves in a way that leaves room for those deep creative undercurrents that sometimes bubble up and leave us with some of the best work we’ve ever produced.

Because, our creativity is nature’s gift to us and we need to not only accept it but revel in it and find ways to break through the social constructs that we can’t, or shouldn’t have creativity in our lives or make time for it.

I believe that when we find time for creativity in our lives, it can be hugely beneficial and can enhance not only creative practice but our health and wellbeing, which in turn can help us live more fulfilling and rich lives.

My reading life…

Life is now going where I want it to…

I make sure to find joy in the simple things in life and when things get too much I can always fall back on my first love, which was reading. There’s nothing better than the pure escapism that comes from entering another world through a book.

My favourite genre is historical fiction, but I’m not really into romance. I prefer a mystery, intrigue, some kind of psychological element or a journey of discovery, and I absolutely adore books that shift through time and have multiple protagonists. My favourite authors are Kate Morton, Helen Forrester, Gemma Liviero, Diane Setterfield, Kate Riordan and more recently I’ve been enjoying Alex Gerlis and so many others.

I also like to read non-fiction books, mostly on entrepreneurship, business, marketing, writing and mindset.

The people in my life..

My family are the most important thing to me…

I’ve been married since I was very young, and we have four children, three of whom are grown up now and another who is still school age. More recently, I became a Nannie when my eldest son became a Dad and had a son of his own. And, my youngest and I are now embarking on a new home education journey.

We’ve travelled a lot over the years because my husband was a career soldier for 22 years, which meant moving house every three years for the whole 22 years, but he’s happily retired now so we’ve settled back home in the North East of England and couldn’t be more happy not to have to move so often.

I have a cute little dog called Dylan, and a cat called Blake, who I can honestly say is more demanding than the children were, and I spend my weekends with a crochet hook or knitting needles creating something gorgeous. My to-do pile of crochet and knitting is a bit like my TBR pile; huge and never-ending, but that’s the best part.
