The Light-Bulb Moment that is 2k-10k

I’ve just finished reading a really great book on editing, which I’d been hearing some great things about on some of the podcasts I listen to.

It’s called “2K to 10K: How to Write Faster, Write Better, and write more of what you love.” It’s by an author named Rachel Aaron and I think I’m a latecomer to the party on how good this book is.

Many of the podcasts I listen to have mentioned this book, and I’d just thought to myself, ‘oh that sounds interesting,’ but I didn’t actually do anything about it for ages, until I was listening to one last week when this book came up yet again. So I decided that if so many people thought this book was great, it must be worth checking out. An hour later, I’d bought the book, and it was nicely loaded onto my e-reader.

In it Rachel outlines how she sets out to begin writing a new book and discusses all the planning and outlining she does before she begins and also how she then uses similar techniques to begin her editing sequence.

I’ve been struggling with my editing, and it’s not because I don’t know what needs doing; it’s how to begin and where to start that’s more the issue. This book outlines some great techniques on how to get right down to planning it all out.

It really was like a lightbulb moment. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t thought of doing it this way all along.

So, now I’ve read the book, all I need to do is go and implement some of these techniques. Hopefully, they’ll work for me, and I’ll be able to edit much faster and give my editor a cleaner copy next time round.

Watch this space.

Oh, and if you haven’t already, and you also have editing issues, pop over to any of the online retailers and buy Rachel’s book. It really is a very wise investment.
